Guide
The Structural Tell
Recognizing when toxic behavior is a system, not just a person
For targets · For allies · For managers
You can’t quite pinpoint where the problem is, but you know it’s there, it’s in the air. There’s a dynamic at play that is keeping morale down, preventing full engagement and productivity. It might not be one person, or even a clique. It might be the structure.
We have developed a framework and guidance to identify whether the issue is structural, built on six diagnostic questions and five markers pulled from sector-wide research. Each marker provides concrete elements to watch for and track. The guide then sets out the recourse available to targets, allies, and managers, a framework for recovering a captured reputation, and the documentation that supports either escalation or exit.
- Six diagnostic questions that separate an individual problem from a structural one
- Five evidence-based markers, with prompts and word-for-word scripts for each
- Recourse and scripts for targets, allies, and managers already inside the organization
- The Narrative Capture Recovery Framework, in five steps
- Documentation for escalation, documentation for exit, and the non-negotiables
